Dr Catherine Gardener
Catherine joined the Wulff Lab in 2020 and has worked since then to support various projects in the lab. She is particularly interested in the lab’s research programme on the exploration of Aegilops tauschii for genetic variation that can be used to improve bread wheat. She has been involved in managing the collection of geographically and phenotypically diverse Ae. tauschii germplasm which the lab has sequenced and is interested in curating new germplasm with potentially interesting agronomic traits. She is also working to establish protocols for gene functional validation in this species and other wild wheats such as Ae. sharonensis. Before she joined the Wulff Lab, she obtained her PhD from the John Innes Centre, UK where she worked towards identifying novel thermosensory mechanisms in plants using the model species Arabidopsis thaliana.
